Split system
One room at a time. Bedrooms, a living area, a granny flat, an apartment or a terrace with no roof space to speak of.
- Usually installed in a day
- Add rooms later, one unit at a time
- Several indoor units can share one outdoor unit

Split systems and ducted air conditioning installed, serviced and repaired by a licensed Newcastle team in Mayfield. We measure the rooms before we quote, so what goes in cools the house it's in, and the reverse cycle unit that cools you in January heats you in July.

Both are reverse cycle air conditioning: the same unit cools in summer and heats in winter. The difference is how much of the house it reaches, and what your roof space allows. We'll tell you which suits yours at the quote, and our split system vs ducted guide runs through it room by room.

The whole house from one quiet unit in the roof, with nothing on the walls. Zoned, so you only cool the rooms you're in.
23Before the first hot week
A unit that hasn't been cleaned works harder for less, and the first sign is usually a musty smell on the first hot night. A service is a fixed price per unit, booked ahead, and you see the before and after photos.

Call-out: $140 in business hours, $220 after hours and on weekends, including the first half hour. We tell you the price before any repair starts.

23Planning the whole house?
A room-by-room heat load check at the quote, a written plan with the outlets, the zones and the dates, then two to three days of install. Most families stay home the whole time.

Our old house had one wall unit fighting the whole place. They measured every room before quoting, put the return in the hall where it actually draws, and set it up as three zones. The bedrooms are cool by 9pm now without the lounge running all night.
Split died on the hottest day in January. They came the same afternoon, found a failed capacitor, and had it running before tea. Told me the price on the phone first.
Booked a service because the bedroom unit smelt musty. They pulled it apart, cleaned the coil and the drain, and showed me the photos. Smell's gone.

23Where we work
We work from a unit on Dewpoint Lane in Mayfield, so the inner west and the city suburbs are minutes from the van, and Lake Macquarie and Maitland are a short run out. Cessnock and Singleton get grouped days, so we're not charging you for the drive.
Not listed? Ring anyway. If you're in the Hunter, we'll get to you.

Shops, offices and cafes, and the cool room out the back: installs, servicing and breakdowns, quoted on site.
23Questions
It depends on the size of the room or house, where the units can go and how long the pipe run is, so we price it after a free look. A single back-to-back split, with the outdoor unit straight through the wall behind the indoor one, is the simplest job. Ducted is priced on the house: the number of zones, the roof space and the system size.
Only for breakdowns, where nobody knows what's wrong until we look: $140 in business hours and $220 after hours and on weekends, which covers getting to you and the first half hour of fault-finding. Quotes for new installs are free with no obligation, and servicing is a fixed price per unit, agreed before we book.
Yes. Air conditioning and refrigeration is specialist work in NSW, so it needs a contractor licence at any job value: ours is 000000C (demo). The refrigerant side is federal, so the business holds an ARC refrigerant trading authorisation (AU00000 (demo)) and every technician holds an ARC refrigerant handling licence.
Our licence covers the wiring that goes with the air conditioner: connecting the unit to its circuit and its controls. If your switchboard needs a new circuit or an upgrade to carry it, we arrange a licensed electrician and it shows on the quote as its own line, so there are no surprises on the day.
Once a year for most Newcastle homes, ideally in spring before the first hot week. Units within a few streets of the beach or the lake do better with a check every six months, because salt air corrodes the outdoor coil. Washing the indoor filters every few weeks in summer is something you can do yourself.
We're in Mayfield, so Newcastle is home ground: Mayfield, Waratah, Hamilton, Lambton, Wallsend, Merewether, Adamstown and Stockton. We also work across Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock and Singleton, and out to Kurri Kurri and Raymond Terrace.

Why an air conditioner drips water inside, the causes in order of how often we find them, the checks you can safely do yourself and the point where a technician takes over.

Evaporative cooling is cheap to run and works well in dry heat. On the coast, summer humidity takes most of that away. Here's where it suits in the Hunter, and where reverse cycle wins.

A two-bedroom unit and a four-bedroom family home need different air conditioning. Here's how we decide between split systems and ducted, and what size air conditioner each room needs.
