Air conditioning Morisset

Morisset is the far end of our Lake Macquarie run, around 45 minutes from the Mayfield workshop. Installs, services and quote visits go onto set days on the western side of the lake. A breakdown gets the first technician who can make the drive, and quotes for new systems are free.

Acreage block, long run out from Newcastle, and it gets properly hot here. The quote came with the zones drawn on our plan, and they finished in the three days they said.

Air conditioning in Morisset 2264

Morisset is on the lake but a long way from the surf, and the Bureau's figures show it: three degrees hotter than Nobbys on a January afternoon, and about three colder on a July night.

Morisset sits on the south-western side of Lake Macquarie, about 45 km from Newcastle, just off the M1. It is named after Major James Morisset, who camped here in 1823 on the first overland journey between Newcastle and Sydney. The town barely existed until the railway came through in 1887, and before that most traffic came up Dora Creek by boat. Dora Creek, 5 km north-north-east, is one of the lake's two main feeder creeks. Morisset Hospital took its first patients in 1909 and its grounds, about 1,244 hectares, run down to the lake shore; they have been on the State Heritage Register since 1999. To the west, Mandalong is quiet rural country near the Watagans. The Bureau's Cooranbong (Lake Macquarie AWS) station averages 28.6°C in January and drops to 5.2°C on July nights over its 2008 to 2026 record. Newcastle Nobbys, on the coast, averages 25.6°C and 8.5°C for the same months.

23What we do here

Air conditioning work around Morisset

  • Homes in Morisset town and Bonnells Bay

These houses get real use out of both halves of a reverse cycle system. We size for the heating as carefully as the cooling, and check that a unit still puts out its rated heat on a cold morning before we recommend it.

  • Creekside houses in Dora Creek

Close to the water but sheltered from the ocean wind. The salt load is lighter than on the eastern shore, though damp air off the creek and the lake still settles on the outdoor coil, so it gets a rinse and a fixings check on every service.

    Servicing and Cleaning
  • Acreage toward Mandalong and Cooranbong

Bigger houses spread across larger blocks, with leaves and bark around the outdoor unit. We clear the space around it, and where a new circuit is needed from the switchboard we arrange a licensed electrician.

23Questions

Morisset: common questions

How do you fit Morisset jobs in from Mayfield?

Planned work on the western side of the lake goes onto set days, so a quote visit in Morisset might share the day with a service in Bonnells Bay and an install in Cooranbong. We'll offer you the next of those days when you ring. For a breakdown, we give you a time on the phone.

Is Morisset really hotter than Newcastle?

In summer, yes. Over the Cooranbong station's record, January afternoons average 28.6°C, three degrees above the coast at Nobbys. July nights are colder too, at 5.2°C against 8.5°C. A unit that's right for a beach house in Newcastle is often too small for the same room out here, which is why we size it on site.

Does our Dora Creek house need the same salt care as one at Swansea?

Usually less. Dora Creek is well away from the ocean, so the outdoor unit doesn't get the sea spray the eastern side does. Damp air off the lake still corrodes fixings over time, so a yearly service with a coil rinse is still worth it, and we'll tell you if we see rust starting.

We're on acreage near Mandalong. Ducted or several splits?

For a big, spread-out house, zoned ducted usually makes sense, because one outdoor unit serves every room and you only run the zones you're using. If the house is in separate wings, or you only use a few rooms day to day, splits in those rooms can cost less to buy and run. We walk through it with you on the visit.

Do you work on shops and practices in Morisset town?

Yes. Shops, cafes, offices and consulting rooms around the town centre and Dora Street run all day with the door opening, so we size systems for a full trading day. Servicing is booked outside your opening hours, and cool room repairs for food businesses are part of the same work.

When should we book a service so it's done before summer?

September or October. That leaves time to get onto one of our western-side days before the first hot week, and if the service finds a part that needs replacing, there's time to order it. By late December most people want the same week, so the earlier booking gets you the better choice of day.
